ok i bought some used parts and got my stock intake, and i newer exhaust manifold. of the 3 holes in the intake to bolt to the exhaust the single bolt hole between carb and gasket face is too small for the long stud in the newer exhaust manifold.

so i drilled it out with a 3/8th's bit and now it fits, but the super six intake i have has a larger hole.

the 2 rear bolt holes in the manifold are now drilled out but off center, because i broke the old bolts while trying to remove em'.

now i'm worried about the exhaust and intake tolerances.

i know it took me a while to explain this but, to all of you that know more then me (and there are alot of you) what should i do. i'm thinking,, take it to the local machine shop and let them fix it.

but can i just drill out the holes larger put the intake and exhaust together somewhat loosely, and then mount them to the head then tighten them or are the manifolds off sent a bit?

please excuse my lack of well, everything. i'm a bit nervous and would rather spend more money then have another head ache, hell i've already spent about 90 bucks on tools for this mother F###er. excuse me but im frustrated at the moment.

i want to drive.

thank you all

dario

If I understand your question correctly, you are worried about the three bolts that connect the intake and exhaust manifolds maintaining alignment. If that's what you're worried about, you don't need to.

The actual alignment of that connections isn't critical to begin with, and is actually handled by torquing down all the bolts that connect the manifolds to the head. The three bolts you're concerned about should only serve to provide a clamping force between the manifolds, not to align them.

See this article for some good info on manifold mounting.
http://www.slantsix.org/articles/manifo ... unting.htm

Yes, you can drill the holes oversize and use a nut & bolt combo to clamp everything together.
And use the head as a "jig" to get everything in the correct location.
Do a trial fit-up and look for high spots and gaps, "fiddle and file" as needed.

THANK YOU GUYS.

that takes aLOT of stress off my back. i'm goin outside to get em together. i thought i could do that.

if i had to i could take them to livermore airport where my grandfather has a mill. but i've never used one and he really doesnt know what he is doing with it. i've seen him break some tooling and that was deathly scary.
