Post subject:  Pulling engine/trani out of an 'A' body

Ok, the engine is off balanced being on a slant. What do you bolt to to have it stay on it's angle as it comes out?
I'm pulling it ou of an 'A' body, with the trani attached.

Look for threaded holes in the head. One is above and between #3 intake and exhaust, the other at #5. Use appropriately-sized eye bolts. Make sure they have plenty of threads engaged AND that the shoulder seats to the head.
Oh, and don't put anything important under ANY engine on a hoist.

Thanks, I'll take a look. These threaded holes, they are seen with the Valve cover on?

It looks like I'm playing with the same car you have....'70 Valiant 4 door?

These bolt holes are just outside of the valve cover.
When pulling the engine and trans as a set, I link a strap between the two holes and hook onto the the forward portion of the strap. This allow you to tilt the assembly "nose-up" as it comes out. (or goes in)
When removing the engine only, lift the engine using the forward mounting point alone, doing that gives it the proper tilt.

Yes. They're right here, on the top of the head, not under the valve cover:

Mine is a '64 Valiant V200 four-door.

I guess the Negative of your car makes the Tailights look like the '70.

Sorry, one more question. Excuse me, I'm a Bowtie guy so I'm just trying to catch up with what you all may see as obvious.

Do you jack the back of the car up for addition angle help of the trani tailshaft or is hanging most of the weight off the forward mounting hole good enough??

Positioning the lift point near the front mounting boss will give the assembly a very steep angle. I have to stick a floor jack under the tail of the trans to keep the real seal's boot from dragging on the driveway.

No need to jack the back of the car up. Infact I've done it with the car on an inclined driveway, nose of the car on the higher end. Just make your chains as short as possible so your engine lift doesn't smack the hood before you run out of lift.

I asummed that I'd have to remove the hood to remove the engine. Is this not true?

You dont have to in some cases...I take mine off...it makes life a lot easier and the hood stays nicer.
