Dan, I bought the MO-3000 rotor. Is this compatible with the stock cap, or do I NEED to get another cap. I remember you mentioning another cap, but wasn;t clear on whether that was essential for the MO-300 rotor. What benefit will I see from this rotor? Thanks. Sam |

This rotor has a contact tip that is 0.060" longer than the regular item. This moves the tip of the rotor closer to the contact in the cap, which reduces the gap the spark has to jump inside the distributor. This means that for any given desired secondary voltage level, you can run a larger plug gap. This, in turn, means better exposure of the fuel/air mix in the cylinder to the spark, which tends to improve combustion. "Gotchyas" are that you have to make sure your distributor hasn't got sideplay that could let the rotor hang up on one of the cap segments, and you have to make sure your cap is ground "on centre". Ironically, the Echlin slant-6 caps are ground off-centre (carelessly/sloppily); some of the contacts are almost complete circles of brass, while others are barely slivers. Even a regular rotor will hang or drag on these sorry caps! I like to use the Standard CH-410X "Blue Streak" cap with copper contacts. If I'm going swimming (drive in a wet area) I sometimes add a Standard AL-483G distributor cap gasket. Peel and stick! |

It is possible to get a good one (kinda). I mistakenly ordered an Echlin cap shortly after getting my Duster and after I picked it up realized that I had brainfarted. Rather than just take it back I took a very close look at the contacts and as far as eyeballing could tell me it looked darn near perfectly centered. More'n likely, I just got lucky, but I still intend to install a Standard/Blue Streak cap and new Echlin MO-3000 rotor when I do the HEI conversion (along with Magnecor 8.8 wires and new .045 gapped NGK plugs).

Gee, maybe after a decade and a few years of makin' 'em wrong, they wised up! No reason to buy another cap if you got an Echlin one that's ground on-centre. |

I went to napa a week ago and they said the MO-3000 was no longer available and instead gave me a Echlin MO13. Does any one know the difference? |

MO-3000 is a special-order item. MO13 is just the regular normal rotor without the special extra-long tip. |

I just went through the same experience. Lazy parts man........ He tried to tell me it wasn't available, gave me the third degree and finally found it on their computer system after I stood my ground. Took three days to get one out of Portland, Oregon. Installed it using the Blue Streak cap per SL6Dan's suggestion and wow! Runs like a clock. The NGK UR4GP's are gapped @ .040 and it doesn't miss a beat. |

Who handles the Blue STreak parts these days? I remember seeing them years ago in a local, independent parts place, but haven't seen them since the "big box" stores have taken over the auto parts business. Does one of these chains handle the Blue Streak ignition parts? |

Blue Streak Distributors have been turning up on Ebay lately. That's where I had to get mine. Same experience w/ NAPA. Three days to get the 3000 distributor. Good tips! Joe |

Advanced has the ones with the copper contacts. It might take more than a week to get one in.

They are molded then the inner contacts are machined to the correct diameter. |
