they are all interchangable right? i have a 66 rear with the small bolt pattern and 3.23 gears and i just put a 75 rear with 2.73's and they just arent cutting it. if they are interchangeable i would like to put the 3.23's into the newer rear. any help on this would be great. |

I'm about to do the same thing and just went through the same round of questions. Consensus seems to be that it should work just fine. *edit* I did notice that there is a difference between early and late in the size of the pinion nut but I don't know when the change was made. I have 3 rears with a small nut and 2 with a large one. The 2 of the 3 small ones came from '62 cars while the 3rd I believe came from a '64. One of the large ones is in a '62 but I don't believe it is original and the other came from a '74. I believe - but am not certain - that the seals, pinion bearings, side bearings, etc. are all interchangeable. |

Your 3.23 gears will direct interchange intop the later rear.......and like the ones I swapped 7 years ago will last as long as you keep your foot out of it. |

You know, I have gone through (3) of these rears in 6 years. I drive 120 miles a day, not hard, but alot of miles on twisty two lane roads........I finally broke down and went with modifying a C-body 8 3/4 rear. Yes, it has to be shortened to fit, but what a welcome relief. I can stand on it anytime I want and bust the wheels loose and not have to worry about it. I had Randy's Ring & Pinion go through the rear end and they do a superb job setting it up. It is nice to have the 10" brakes too. They have saved me more times than I can count. |
