Does anyone know what the bolt center dimensions for the rear shackles should be for a Dart?
Can someone measure their car and let me know?

Thanks!

The stock ones are 3 1/2"

The shortest you can run is 2 3/4"

Here is a little sidebar on one way to upgrade shackles.

My son had installed new springs 2 years ago. They work well but son installed the front spring eye using stock 3/8 bolts in a 9/16 spring bushing. The rear shackles were so puny.....

I installed 9/16 bolts in the front eye after drilling out the front spring mount. Note my mount is reversed to lower the car.

I made new rear shackles using 3/4t 4x4 front shackles....much bigger.

I redrilled the shackles to 1/2" (same size as poly bushings ) and installed 1/2 x 4" Bolts with nyloc nuts. If you use this size and tighten till the bolt is flush with the nut you get perfect clamp on the bushings.

Thanks Sandy!
I went with 3" spacing for now. I would like to upgrade to the poly bushings. Do they come with metal sleeve inserts? Or does the bolt ride on the poly? I tried the link you have but it doesn't come up. I would like to see a little larger picture of the shackle you made.

Great picture! It explains everything.

Black Diamond is about 2 hours from Seattle on the way to Mount Rainier along the Cascade Mountain range. It is an old Coal Mining Town.

Thanks for your help.

Hay Sandy, I Tried to print your spring pack picture, but no dice.

The paper comes out of the printer with "Page 1 of 1" at the top, and the web address with "blank.gif" at the bottom...

Any suggestions? I'm trying to compare with my springs with out bringing the darn things into my computer-room

Thank you, Sir

I like that idea. Remember what 4x4 you pulled 'em off of?

To answer some questions posed in IM:

To lower the car about 2"in the rear you can reverse the front spring mounts. The spring pack picture above shows the front mounts reversed. In order to reverse them you must swap them side for side,,,,,you will understand when you get there.

Reversing the mounts changes the pinion angle of the rear axle,,,,,this may have detrimental effects on U joint angles. I have installed shorter shackles on the rear of the spring and changed spring mounts on the axle to ameliorate the pinion angle changes.

I used poly bushings on the rear of the springs and kept the rubber bushings on the front of my JC Penney springs.

Although Poly bushings are controversial on LCAs they are well accepted on leaf springs.
