Post subject:  Valves & Tuneup

Hey gang
Last time I was home I got the Volare sorted for the mechanical inspection. Its been sitting now for a few weeks, but im getting home later this week so ill take it in & get it signed off.
She runs alright but definately needs some tuning, so im going to start working on that next. I already changed the cap, rotor & wires. Ive got the plugs but didnt have the right socket...
What I want to do next is adjust the valves & tune the carb, neither of which I have ever done before.
So. What is the procedure for adjusting the valves & what all will I need to do this?
S.

As often as this question gets asked that thread should probably be made a "sticky" or an article should be posted. Personally I like the idea of a sticky thread because it seems that many people go straight to the forums and seem unaware that there a number of tech articles covering the exact issue they are looking to solve. Just a thought...

Actually how about a sticky to alert slanters that there is a very useful tech section on this website!! Lots of new viewers, Lawrence

My experience as moderator of the "Parts for sale" section strongly suggests that people ignore stickies and announcements, no matter how many big flags and arrows and "READ THIS FIRST!" titles you put on them. So, yeah, it probably should be an article, but given that people will ask where it is even if it's right in front of them, it doesn't matter so much where the info is.

I might add that none of this is intended tp be critical of the original poster. It's jast that this is one of those topics that seems pop up regularly.

I admit I'm guilty of doing this quite often. Sometimes when you search you either get no results related to what you're asking (if it's not already in a tech article), or you get a whole bongload (heh) of results that'd take forever and a day to sort through. Sometimes it's just easier to ask the question again (albeit lazy. Hey I ain't gonna lie, I'm lazy :P )

One of the reasons people ask is to connect with someone out there. And let's face it, sometimes you get to know another slanter from around the world. If you have connected, then you have just a little more enthusiasm(at least I do) than operating alone.

You're right Sam, and I certainly wasn't criticizing the question just suggesting a way to make the answer a little easier to find.
