So I finally found everything I need for my disc conversion! Once I find LBP wheels for the front then we are ready to go. I found a good deal on a set of 4, figuring that I would just save the other two for when I do the rearend (whenever that happens...) Then my boyfriend finds a set of wheel adapters that "converts" a SBP to a large. Sound kinda odd to me, anyone have an opinion/experience using these? Thanks! |

Be sure your life insurance and cemetary plot are paid-up in full before you hit the streets running wheel "adaptors". Yes, they really are that dangerous. |

In Pennsylvainia you will fail your yearly safety inspection if you have wheel adapters. |

Just say no. You can get 2 kinds. Type A) So thin that they will BRAKE at a random time. Type B) So thick they wont brake but will screw up your offset so much it will null the point of using them. (Since you will need custom rims) |

I did the front disc conversion on my 74 Swinger 7 years ago. I ran the SBP rear wheels for about a year, and bought a couple of adapters, and mounted LBP rims (Stock Rally wheels with 205/70 14" tires). I've put around 70,000 miles on the Swinger since installing the adapters, and the only problem I've had is slight rubbing of the tires on the wheel well lip when my air shocks lose a bit of air. (Currently working on a rear end replacement with LBP, new showkc and new springs to correct both of these problems). |

Ok... I suspected I'd get a response like this... No problem. Question - Are there REAL, documented cases where these have actually caused problems? All I've ever heard are second hand stories. I guess I'd be more convinced of their problematic nature if I'd seen reason to be convinced other than "Doesn't sound like a good idea to me"... |

I don't have anything to add to the adapter discussion but I will comment on the air shocks. They are a very bad idea. The upper shock mounts weren't made to support that much weight. The mounts will tear away from the sheet metal of the trunk and cause a great deal of damage. That is documented; I've seen it myself. |

I agree on the air shock thing.. It's the main reason I'm switching rearends. I'm tired of horrible ride I get from the air shocks, and the chance I'll destroy my shock mounts. |
