There seems to be alot of spring tension on the lokar cable with the kickdown lever spring, especially if the small set screw at the end of the lokar cable is all that holds it all together. Can the factory return spring be removed and a smaller one be installed?

I wouldn't worry about it. You'll be amazed at how much that little setscrew will hold. :D

Yea it looks cheesey but it works, have several out there still working.
Only move it to shorten the cable. as it really trashes the cable.

Thanks guys. I finally got it done. Just seemed to be a lot of pressure with the lever all the way back. I think I read somewhere where someone put a small spring on the kickdown lever to pull it all the way forward at idle. does this sound right? Necessary?

Try it and do what feels best for you. Some I used factory springs,, others just what I had in the drawer.....................

Check out the link below to see the little spring trick. I did the same thing, used a spring from an idle adjustment screw off an old carb and a couple of tiny washers. Works great.

Thats a neat idea, but different than what I was thinking. I was thinking of putting a light spring(such as a throttle return spring)on the kickdown lever itself. To pull it back towards the front of the car. To get rid of the play that the above modification is maintaining.
