Post subject:  Can I put any of these parts together to get BBP? 72 dart

Let me start off with saying that im happy with the way my little dart stops with its 9inch drums. I know they are limited and drive like it has no brakes.

Now, I have some pimp 14" mags I want to put on my dart and I dont really want to buy new tires for 14" SBP rims. I feel like its a waste. Can I use any combo of these parts im about to list to make a "free" BBP upgrade?

All brand new 10 front drum asy's and spindles off a 69 b-body
11" front drum asy's and spindles off a 71-body
1975 disc UCAs off a 1975 dart
Any way I could mix and match this junk from my garage to get BBP on my stock 72 dart?

The rear is easy. I have a fresh 8.75 with BBP (was a c-body axle that was cut)

Non of that stuff assembles into a conventional set up, but there is a guy out there with a web site who recomends putting the B body spindles with the late A body upper control arms that you have. He says it works, not only OK, but better. This is a point of controversy, but you might do a search and try to look his site up. If I recall he has some stuff for sale, but I might be confusing two seperate web sites. He claims the taller spindels give a better angle somewhere in the design. I don;t know, I am just repeating what I have read.

The '69 B spindle is the same height is the '73-76 A spindle. That is why the A body disk brake setup is so popular with the B body guys.

The spindle height changed when they went to the transverse sway bars.

I see what you are saying, and yes it would work, but you would still have drum brakes in the end. I would lean towards tracking down the correct spidels for disk brakes, and make that swap. If you are looking for the cheapest set up, with what you have, see if you can get the 11" drums to mate with the 10" spindles. AS I said, the 71 drum brake set up will mate with your 75 A body UCA, and there are those who say it not only works, but is superior to the factory setup. Again, you would want to research it all, and satisfy yourself that it was OK before you went to all the trouble. In the end, it puts the upper control arm up higher in a a static position, and this is supposed to improve something, but I don;t remember what.

If I were going to all the trouible, I would do the research, and put on a good disk brake set up though.. There are conversions that bolt to the spidels you have on the car now.

The spindle interchange is '65-'72 B body, '70-'74 E body and '73-'76 A body. These spindles are all the same height and will interchange. they need the larger upper ball joint. The '73 and later B bodies and all of the transverse T-bar, RWD cars used the same spindle. They are taller then the earlier spindles, but will bolt in. Bigblockdart has a nice write up, and refers to them as "B" body spindles, which is a slight misnomer.

With that being said, I would be more concerned with the 11" brakes and 14" rims. The 10" drums would be a better fit. B-bodies came stock with a 10"x2.5" drums. This is larger then the 10" A body drums which are 10"x1.75", and should give you better braking. But not as good as the A body disk setup. The best bet is to find the owner of B/E body, that did the A body disk upgrade, and pick up the old spindles/drums for next to nothing.

An ideal setup, would be the 10x2.5" B body front spindles/drums and a A body 8.25" rear axle with the 10x2.5" drums. This would give more brake sweep area the the stock A body 10" setup. The stock A body master cylinder could also be use.

This should produce a nicely balanced system, especially with Dan's recommended wheel cylinder swap on the rear.
