Guys, As a forum member and friend asked me, '"Why are you putting in an automatic after you swapped in a 833OD?!" Because I am truly filled with slant sickness, I reckon! I am putting in a 727 into my 64 D100 after getting the 833OD to work perfectly. Just for the challenge or for lack of a project, guess. But, I do want a floor shifter. Looking at all the catalogs shows the big names like Hurst, TCI, etc. all have Torqueflite floor shifters, in fact several flavors. For the street, has anyone got a recommendation of their most favored shifter? I don't know anything about them, such as does one need one with a reverse lockout, and I do see many shifters that don't indicate P, R, N, D1, D2, D3 , for instance. Looks like all shifters are about $250 so the price doesn't seem to matter too much. Also I have at least two sets of super six kickdown apparatus...but don't use em because I run the Edelbrock 500 cfm now. BUT I am about to swap in a Holley 390 cfm and will have to make a linkage for it from the pedal. Do you have to have both a lokar kind of cable AND a kickdown rod for an auto to work? (Fun to be beginning my adventure forward again from total ignorance)! Thanks, rock '64d100 |

For the kickdown you need one or the other, cable or rod. |

My personal favorite is a Hurst Quarter Stick. I have both a forward pattern standard one and a reverse pattern pistol grip that is in my Valiant now. My feeling is that you can not buy a better shifter unless you spend $400 for a PPP. I would do the Lokar cable. It is simple to install and works very well. |
