2.2L mopar cylinder 2 keeps fouling out, 2x spark plugs, 2x ingition wires & distributor caps, rotors. This is ingition timing computer controlled system. Details: no misses felt especially with 4 cylinder engine, a dead cylinder is noticeable but this is not the case.  Manifolds and gasket is also repaired and getting 16mpg with carb for a 1987 caravan. Cheers, Wizard |

In 2004 and I still got same result. 165PSI across and that was when plugs was taken out and tested. Then replaced the manifold gasket as I needed to fix the leaks and swapped carb for good one which I got it straightened out. Fast forward to 2007. Same cylinder. I'll keep you all updated. Is there a vaccum line to just that cylinder, or near that intake runner? I wonder if it's sucking in fuel somehow into just that cylinder, from some sort of emission control gone wacky. What about a flat exhaust lobe on the cam? |

Vacuum stuff is from central spot (from carb and carb adapter) Nothing anything sucking fuel thru. PCV is not sucking oil in either. Lobes are all present, hydraulic adjusters firm and "solid" but could that can go soft when running? Anyway, had head prepped and taken it to shop for look-see, mechanic says guides worn enough and being sent off to reputatable head rebuilder for a estimate and info on items for what wrong also. Interesting thing about this, oil is NOT USED at all! No smoking either. But yet, the valves/seats leaking enough gases as worn guides let valve head stomp on the seats off center all over? First 1 to 2 inches into the intake runners at the ports are blackened. Cheers, Wizard |

Well the update is this both heads have worn valve guides, cracks between valves, and a big pit in the combustion chamber (I recongize this as casting bubble). One is from caravan's 2.2L and other one from 2.5L engine I picked up while back. About the cracks between valves, I knew they should be harmless but I asked for pressure test but I wasn't not sure of their response so I'll confirm again tomorrow morning with my mechanic. Mechanic also supposedly explained that one blackened combustion chamber is caused by oil leaking past the worn guides that gave the dry black soot coating. It is not rings that causes things wet with oil instead of dry black soot. So I'm still uncertain because lot of info is kinda against this one mechanic. Cheers, Wizard |

What did the backs of the valves look like? If the guides were eaking they should have been caked with sludge. The new electronic ignitions will fire hot enough to soot a little oil I suppose. |

Ugh, I thought posted a reply. 1. yes, old fashioned coil can exactly like your /6 in same spot. So far it's doing the job.2. backs of the valves is slight build up of junk, mostly black. Cheers, Wizard |
