Folks,

I have one of Andy F's A500 adapter plates. So it just dawned on me I might would be better off with the 4 speeds in the A500 than the 3 speeds in the 727, at least for street use in my d100. The A500 has a .69 4th while the 1:1 in the 727 will get me revving at about 4,000 doing 75 to 80 mph. Since I can fit them both to a slant, wouldn't the A500 be the better choice?

thanks

Depends on the specific transmissions in question. The A500 does not have anywhere near the reputation for durability and reliability that the A904/A727 do.

Dart 270 has done this.

If you do any amount of highway driving the A500 would be my choice.

We have an A500 in a V6 88 Dakota . I could see it being a good trans behind a mild slant.

I used and abused a 500 behind a 3.7 litre V6 on a town and country long chassis. Really abused it. for like 10 years. tad over 2 million miles in that time, never a single problem, just changing oil and filter and keeping an eye on it.

I have a 44RE which is the successor to the A500 just with more electronic gizmos in it. It performed well until about 120K it went on exteneded vacation. According to most accounts, the overdrive trannies are not as durable as the original torqueflites.
