Hi,

How do I know if the tranny on my car is the original one?

I found out it is a A-904 and there is some other # on the casing too.

I need to find some gasket/seal and probably an oil filter too. Is there a good place to buy these?

What about this kit, although I didn't really want to change the clutch but maybe I'll do if it's not to complicated...

Contact Pat Blais, tflitepatty@verizon.net , and get the rebuild parts for your transmission from him. If you buy an unknown from eBay you will wind up upset, most likely.

The standard 904 in 65 will have 2 cables ( cable shift cable, cable parking sprag),
and a ball and trunion joint at the rear instead of a slip yoke u-joint.

If it does not have the above and has linkage rod arms it is 99%
chance of been a later trans.

clutchs are inside a 904 and can only be replaced by taking
the trans a part (rebuild).

Do not use the filter in that kit on a 65 or earlier trans, it will dammage the trans. Seller states the kit is for 1961- 1971, but in the description says the filter is for 66-71. I would be leary of the lip seals in the kit. They are not the same across the years. The kit may or may not have the required lipseals, and my not have the gasket for the park sprag housing. There were many changes between 65 and 66, and some other changes in other years.
