Hi all, new here and wondering how to establish which slant is in my newly aquired'63 D100 swb utiline, and if it is original engine.data plate says SPECIAL where indicated for hp at rpm. was originally a Gov't vehicle with 420 trans and 3.91 Sure-grip,16x4.5 wheels. #s on block being 2806830-4(cast in) 0951(on small attached plate, above cast in AAWJ followed by cast in BF all blue painted,no stickers/decals on valve cover or air filter housing. Thanks in advance to all for reading this and especially anyone that would have knowledge or even a decent clue. p.s. I'm sure it's a 225 as opposed to 170. Ciao

One quick way to determine is looking at the short hose coupled between the top of the water pump and the head. If its about 2" its a 170, If its 3" its a 225 block.

Now it may well be a late engine if it has blue paint on it, or repainted.
Blue was not used till later in the 60s.
Red is for cars in 63, yellow for trucks in 63.
Left you a message over on the Swept site too.
If this was a millitary truck it may have gotten
a heavy bearing set installed ( heavy rod and main bearings
and that would make it a class 2 block), that would explain
the "special", least if the engine is orig.....

there should be numbers stamped on the block (not cast)
near the coil mount- what do they read??
Per parts book--- right side of engine boss directly behind coil

This is a 68 and up, 5 freeze plug, "tall" (RG) block. The BF castings are of good quality. See the block article for more info.
