What is the size of the retaining nut?
I have a 1" and it is not a deep socket so I am guessing but with it being an 81' it could very well be metric.

Thanks,

Take the sender to an auto parts store and look in their tool aisle, its a special socket not an ordinary 12 sided thing. There are a few varities though so its best to match up directly.

There is no retaining nut on the oil sender. The sender body itself has flats on it that allow it to be turned in or out of the threaded hole in the oil pump. It is not metric, but it is an odd size. Use an oil pressure sender socket, easily and cheaply available from an auto parts store.
