I am trying to remove my gauge cluster in my '70 Valiant and am hung up on the retaining nuts for the wiper and headlight switches. Is there a company that makes a special tool for removing said switches? Also, how does the knob come off the headlight switch post? I tried pulling, twisting and looking for a set screw. |

There's a button on the headlight switch you have to press. It's on the backside of the cluster, on the bottom of the switch, the other side from the electrical plug. Press it and pull the knob all the way out. After that, I think the retainer uses a phillips screwdriver. Not sure about the wiper, though. Can't remember. |

There is a tool made for the purpose but you can do it with a pair of needle nose pliers or even snap ring pliers. Just be careful no to mar the finish. |

A good trick is also to cross a couple of small flat head screwdrivers against each other, making an "X" pattern, then fit the ends into the notches around the perimeter of the retaining nut, and twist against each other and it will spin right off. I have used that method hundreds of times now without any trouble. |
