I have a 1974 D200 with 225 and 3psd..the motor is a later style 2brl motor without the spark plug tubes..am looking to put in a 904 automatic..have located a nice tranny but need the flex plate to hold it all together..i thought i read that the early slant flex plate wont work with this crank??..will a small block V8 one work?? if not anbody out there got what i need?? also the drive shaft i am pretty sure i will need to put in a new drive shaft to work with this set up...a drive shaft from a small block truck with a A904 and once piece shaft should work?? Thanks Jeff shffrjeff@aol.com sorry for all the questions i have been out of the mopar game for a LONG time |

The break for the flexplate is 67 and down for the small flange and 68 and up for the big flange. 67 and earlier trans needs an adapter ring for the converter to work in the late crank too. If you need a later flexplate I have about 100 of them at my shop. A small block plate will fit, but you have to elongate 1 bolt hole. The V-8 shaft will work as long as it is for a 904. |

Hey Jeff, I have been working on this or a similar problem and if the engine is prior to a '68, the crank end will not fit with the pilot piece of the tranny. Consequently, the flexplate for a 904 for a '68 or younger is too large for the crank of a '67 or lower. Not only is the pilot smaller for the '67 or below, but the spline is 27 or 28 vs 18 for the '68 or younger. I have found a manufacturer that will take my '72 torque converter and fit it with the 1.55" pilot so it will fit the '66 225 cui engine. I don't know how much it will cost, but hope it will not be too bad, since the torque converter is pretty inexpensive. I hope this does not sound like I don't know what I am talking about, since I don't. Roger |
