Post subject:  manifold adapter?

Hi guys!
Im about to replace my old one barrel holley for a 40/40 dual barrel...
I need to know if its possible to adapt my manifold (one hole) to palce the new carb... is it possible, I mean without changing the original manifold?
Thanks!

If you search on here for such a thing, you will find that it is possible, but not recommended.

It is possible, but it is a bad idea. Much better to start with a manifold intended for a 2bbl carburetor.

Why is it not recommended?
Does it lose power?? has someone done it with bad experience??
Thanks.

The one barrel opening is too restrictive

Is it the bore of the single barrel opening on the manifold, or are the manifold runners themselves smaller than those of a Super Six manifold? If it's only the opening for the carb, them I would think that could be machined out, with new holes drilled for appropriately placed studs for a 40/40. But I'm only speaking in the sense of thinking that it could physically be done. I would expect starting with a Super Six intake manifold would still be far more feasable.

The bore in the manifold is the same size as the 1bbl carb.

With an adaptor the 2 bbls neck down to the 1bbl size, thus no gain.

Modifying the 1bbl manifold has been done (bet SSDan knows the link) for 2bbl carbs

If the runners are the same size, why not just hog out the manifold to the same size as the carb gasket? It would be easy to use the adapter as a guide, and don't people use carb spacers as a performance upgrade anyway?

I figured that people here would be into doing it themselves? Or maybe the 2 barrel manifold isn't that hard to find?

Is this what you're trying to do?

The 2bbl intakes aren't hard to find in North America. Not sure what the situation is in Argentina. Here's an article (pdf) on how to grind & modify a 1bbl intake to accommodate a 2bbl carb, with parallel orientation (factory 2bbls were perpendicular).

It can be done but there isn't a lot of real estate to work with and a 40/40 is a sizable pair of bores. It would be tricky at best. Even the "Super Six" manifold will require an adapter. I would think it would be more feasable with a 4 bbl manifold such as a Clifford or Offy. You would then be able to turn the carb 90* for improved fuel/air distribution. It seems to me anyway, but I've never done it - maybe someone here has.

I've seen stock intakes modified to 4bbls! BTW what is a 40/40? 40mm?

That's what I took it to be; 2 barrels, 40 mm each. Tha'ts a big carb.
