What would the symptoms be of a spun rear main bearing?Lower oil pressure, knocking, hard to turn over,or other noises?
The reason that I am asking this is that when I started my 60 Valiant Sunday it made a high pitched squeal for 4-5 seconds then quit making the noise. It has never made this noise before and hasnt made it since.
The engine has about 30 hours of tuning time time and has not been driven on the road other than a few short (1/8 mile) runs and has not been revved over 4000 rpm and only a few times of that.
The engine was started on Saturday and ran well after I removed and replaced the stale gas.
Like I said the noise didnt last but a few seconds and the oil pressure didnt change there were no other noises and the engine ran just as well as it always has,as a matter of fact I started the car this afternoon and it ran great with no noises and great oilpressure. I couldnt find any debris in the oil.My buddy told me that I was too paranoid and that it was probably the throwout bearing making a noise but I would like the opinion of the board. What should I look for?
Thanks

Spun bearing would have left debris in the oil that you would have seen when you drained it. The oil would probably also have smelled like crap.

You probably wouldn't see it on the dipstick, but spun bearings usually do not heal themselves either. I'd say your friend was right. T/O bearing was a little dry. Could possibly have been the alternator too.
