Are the /6 flywheels any difference that a SB V8, construction wise (I know they don't interchange)? If a stock SB flywheel works fine for a 400hp/400 ft/# motor, will a stock /6 flywheel work at the same hp/torque numbers? Looking at purchasing my clutch and I'm trying to figure out if I need a new flywheel if I can find a clutch that bolts to the stock one. I know the McLeod setup used a new one, but that was because it was drilled to match a different PP. I'm looking for 350 hp (someday Car will be a driver, but drag raced at times. I hope to road race it some, too. Ultimately, I would like to do the Spring Fling thing that Dart270 did this year (drive to Cali, road race it, go to the show, drive home). |

I worry way less about the flywheel than the clutch... Not that I really know....but I dont see any problems with the slant flywheel unless you are over 6000rpm. |

Yep, clutch is my first concern and will be upgraded to a quality setup. Just need to get some input on whether or not to replace the flywheel at the same time. Either way, I plan to shoot for a clutch that will take the power. I found a Ram and Zoom setup, and about a year ago someone posted that Spec had on option that would take 400 ft/#'s. Also thought about a Supra clutch (which would need a custom flywheel) as I am using a Supra trans and would need a Toyota disk anyway. Need to research the options some more, but I need to figure out the flywheel so I know which direction to go. Thanks! |

I've haven't had a problem with stock flywheels, but I have had a couple I've taken off vehicles and the surface looked like baked crocodile skin with micro cracks deep into the surface...to me that was a 'fail'...(it'd be easier to resurface a nicer looking one with shallow rivet grooves in it, than chance on having the flywheel have some unseen stress problems...) -D.Idiot |
