I got my Chrysler Classic Events mailer last week and noticed they have moved the Pittsburgh race up to the weekend of June 22-24th.
Does anyone know if they are still going to be having a slant six class?
There is no mention of it on the mailer.

Yes, the race is much earlier this year and yes, the slant sixes are a class. This was also mentioned in the slant six racing news.

I don't know why they don't list it on the flier, but I am also understanding that you will have to pay entry for slant six specific. In some past years, you could pay sportsman and race sport and slant six on the same entry, but that won't be the case.

Anyone who is planning on attending Columbus, it's the weekend of the 18th of THIS month. The races are really early this year, and I hope no one gets left out.

I still have multiple slant six cars to take to the track. If anyone wants a rental  just let me know! Phil's brother-in-law did very well in the scamp last year. Maybe he'll make it out again.

This will be the last year for the herd, I'll be thinning down and I can't expect to ever own 4 at one time again. :( One good thing is that with less cars, I'll be able to give the remaining one a lot more TLC. They are ALL for sale until I get at least one sold, so if you are partial to one, make me an offer.

If anyone wants to buy one of my lovely six powered friends, please attend the Pittsburgh race and drive it home.

If anyone needs any other info about the event, I will do whatever I can to provide.

If you don't get a quick reply on this forum, then give me a call.

Thanks

If you are planning to attend, please give us notice so we can have an idea about how many cars to expect. Pittsburgh has historically been a good sized race. Someone will be bringing cold drinks and we'll have a community cookout at the track on the day of the race.

Even with the rain, and hurting my engine, I still had a good time last year. I would reccommend the meet to anyone, that has not done a slant six race, and is thinking about it. Good hospitality at the track, and Greg has a nice social event. Unfortunatly, I will not be able to make it this year.

Seems like every single thing that is happening this summer is planned for that weekend.

Hope I'm the only one seeing that kind of problem, but my plans are solid to make this race. I will be driving my 67 dart and I expect that I will still have one of the other six powered cars for the race if anyone wants to drive out in a gas sipper and then use one of mine.

Glad to hear Phil will be there again. Should be a blast.

Looks like I am not going to be there after all.
My wife's job is sending her to North Carolina to work on a movie set. She will be gone from the 17th until the 24th.
This sucks, Dan got the Holley carb tuning book and we just figured out what was wrong with the carb. The Green Machine really hauls now but I won't be able to prove it.

The race being moved up a month from last year is really going to hurt attendance. I am not going to make the race either due to a family vacation that I reserved last August. :?

I am excited about the race as I just clicked off the fastest run ever with my car Wed night at test and tune. It appears that the car count will most likely be down, as there ar many less people from the forum attending.

However there could be some non forum mambers making the tow.

That's right, you get race results first! and FAST!

Great weekend. You guys really missed out. Weather was nice, track was good, no big delays.

With the notable absence of Brian, Phil Stoneback, Dale Rose, Jim Cox, Mike Reese, we had a very weak car count. We did meet 2 more guys with slant sixes, but could not get them convinced in time to get time trials. Sure to be better count next year, as 10 to 12 is typical.

Total of 5, but we put on a great show and I know you would have been proud to see us.

In attendance:
Greg Ondayko,
Romeo Furio,
Gordie Stevens,
Track owner Frank Tedesko,
Me , Paul Moran

I got the first round bye, while Greg sent Frank back to the ticket booth and Gordie got the easy win as Romeo red lighted by the skin of his teeth (-.019)

Greg got the second round bye with a smoking 14.82 on a 14.85 dial in the first round.(closest et to dial got the second bye) I just missed it as I had 18.58 on an 18.53

So, Paul and Gordie. I dialed a little slower to 18.55 and Gordie dialed 14.49.

For some reason the track called slant six out of order (they had been calling us after sportsman all day). We all roll down the hill and straight into the burnout boxes.

The .107 reaction was my worst of the day, and no match for Gordie's .040
To top it off, the cold engines run faster than most of the day, so I broke out at the end, while Gordie was in the brakes 20 foot from the finish. My et was 18.533 (should have kept the dial from my first run) and gordie ran a 14.52 for the win.

Like I said, Greg was also fast and ran a 14.825 on a 14.85 dial. Lucky for Greg, he was already in the finals, while I on the other hand, got a lot to think about on the drive home.

A very notable side note is that prior to this weekend, Greg had not been able to break into the 14's, but has worked it out so that all his runs on Saturday were sub 15. This in itself was a great victory for Greg, who has put uncountable hours into what amounts to a sweet looking and very competitive race/show car. If you know Greg, be sure to check out his posting about his car, as I'm sure he will be making an update very soon to reflect the achievement. Great work Greg!

Finally, Greg and Gordie lined up about a half second apart with Greg at 14.79 verse 14.42 for Gordie. This made for a very interesting match up and after a pair of distinctive sounding open header slant six burnouts, a moment of silence seemed to rise from the pits. Heads turned to see 'what the sixes would do' Greg and Gordie both had great looking launches and ran almost side by side to the line where Greg posted a 14.86 to Gordie's 14.56. Gordie gets the win light and I was baffled! Closer inspection of the time slip revealed Greg's .196 reaction time to Gordie's .071

Wow, was that ever close. Those hundreds really count when you're running with the slant sixes.

Hope you can tell, I had a great time and really enjoy hanging out with this group of guys. Some additional details and photos should show up in the slant six racing news, but honestly, you got the story right here.

Well, I am sorry I missed it - sounds like a blast. That feed at your place last year was pretty sweet too. Glad you all had a good time, and congrats to Gordie on the win. He is a serious customer. Hope to see you guys at another race this summer.

Lou
