Hey, I'm looking into getting a 4 barrel carb, plaining the head, and boring out my 64' 225 valiant, but im not sure if i should try to convert it to a standard transmission. The car is just a daily driver so its not like im looking for race quality efficiency but im still curious as to whether its really worth it or not. |

It depends on what you want to do: If you have all the parts (pedals, hump, linkage, flywheel, etc...), Then it takes a weekend to do the conversion...this way you won't have to worry about making the 1964 tranny kickdown kickdown cable work. The automatic is already in there, that saves you time and money... Just between you and me, I just did this conversion to Beater Valiant and am swapping in an A-230 3 speed...(it was either: $500 for an A-904 tranny overhaul, or 8 hours of unbolting and cutting, then installing the manual tranny parts....I put the $500 into the engine...) -D.Idiot |

H'mm. How carefully have you thought through your 4bbl-and-overbore project? What's driving you to bore the engine and install a 4bbl? Unless you have specific reasons for making these particular modifications, you are likely to wind up unhappy with the results. What exactly are you trying to achieve? |

Basically, i paid 800 dollars for a 64 valiant instead of shelling out 15,000 bucks for a full blown muscle car. My goal is to have a nice classic car with a decent amount of power, if that answers your question slantsixdan. I think im just going to keep the automatic tranny in because i dont think i could over power it with the kind of modifications i listed previously. Thanks for the responses, Aaron |

Depending on your skill level I would just keep the automatic. This would free up more money for things that improve performance and mileage. The trans will survive almost any amount of sensible street HP. That being said...I love my 5 speed. Where in BC are you? |
