Post subject:  radiator

I am having an overheating problem in my slant6 73 Dart. I changed anti freeze, thermostat(stant 180),15# cap, flush the radiator with Prestone Flush and it still overheats. Only thing left is water pump and radiator. Was looking at aluminum radiators, got a question or 2. Some don't have a drain pitcock, do you drain by lower hose removal? aluminum radiators has 1.5" & 1.75" radiator hose inlet and outlet, while my slant 6 radiator has only 1.5" for inlet and outlet. I tried looking for hose adapter but found none. what do they usually do to solve this problem? Also I see they usually don't come with trans cooler, so you need to use an external cooler only, is this good enough? Most post recommend using radiator cooler inline with a external transcooler. thanks in advance....Jerry

Provided your water pump and thermostat are good (did you check the thermostat by putting it in hot water, to make sure it actually opens?) It sounds like you need to have your radiator rodded out. If the radiator is plugged up enough, prestone flush won't clean it out. Unless your bent on buying a new radiator I'd pull it out ands take it to a radiator shop, they can either clean it out, or put a new core in as long as the tanks are good.

Check the rad hose catalog, sometimes a factory A/C car will have a fatter hose than a non A/C car. I know yours is a Dart but try a Aspen/Dip/Volare etc, the length and shape (preformed bends) should be REAL close to what an A body would need.
