Post subject:  Pulling the trim

Well, it turns out that my motor isn't going to be ready until mid July. That said, I'm thinking I'm going to get the 62 a MAACO special. I'm going to drop this thing off with the trim off and glass removed, make sure they can do a decent job. I'd like to not destoy the trim on this thing. Does anyone have useful tips for removal? Any places to go for weatherstrip and replacement trim clips? OH, and one of my DART 440 emblems is snapped between the DART and 440 any ideas for a good adheasive.

Thanks

I think you may find a lot of the weatherstripping that you are looking for at Blue Star Spares. Also scour ebay, there's sometimes some useful stuff on there.
Can't give any tips on trim removal, the only trim that's ever been removed on my '62 is the one my dad destroyed and knocked off when he backed it into a light post a couple days ago :(.

I know that badge removal can be done via dental floss and a hair dryer. Sometimes just the floss. Its a trick I have seen done, and have done to more modern cars to rebadge a car or two , but I'm not sure about it working for the older cars, and no idea about how to reattach

The trim on a 62 is not attached with glue ordinarily; it's attached with either clips behind the trim or in tha case of cast trim, with studs through the sheet metal. For the trim with clips you'll need a molding clip tool. The tool has a triangular head with a handle. Mine was in a set of 4 or 5 trim tools that I got at Harbor Freight. You can also find them at most parts stores.

Dental floss!? that's a great idea! (wont work on most of our cars though)
