Hey everyone, Since I am replacing the driveshaft/tranny/rear end in my 62 Lancer, I really would like to come up with a different solution for the parking brake cables that cross-over the driveshaft. I've taken a look at a few other cars that I have, and they all run down the sides of the frame rails and then junction near the rear end. I'm wondering what conversions others have made to fix this problem and what parts you used. Any pics would also be appreciated! I finally got the old 7.25 rear out, and started to put in the 8", but realized that I didn't take the parking brake lever off the old shoe before it got tossed, so I'm short one lever. I've not been able to source it yet, so it might be a junkyard item. Always the little things Springs are almost twice as strong as the old 4 leafs, so the next problem will be fixing the ride height. As I can't install the typical drop spring hanger to lower the front eye, I will most likely have to get the new springs dearched, or order a new set of springs. We'll see, one fish at a time. Anyway, thanks for the input! MJ |

What's a parking brake? Dearching the springs is probably a good idea to get them flat or close to it at normal conditions/load. Lou |

yeah yeah I knew you wouldn't have one, which is why I called and asked for that little lever that attaches to the shoe =) Living in close proximity to that hilly city makes the parking brake seem a wise thing to hook back up, but I hate its location. Maybe I should stash some wheel chocks in the trunk instead? |

"What's a parking brake?" He means an "emergency brake cable" that actuates the rear shoes. But then, I suspect you knew this. (vbg) I'd be interested in the response because I have another location problem. I installed a Gear Vendors overdrive on the back of an '87 904 in my '63 Dart GT convertible. The very end of the Gear Vendors unit comes into contact with the stock emergency brake cable. I'll need to reroute the cable. Any suggestions as to how to do this? New brackets? Source?
