What years did the slants come with a 4 speed automatic or I guess a three speed with overdrive, is that right?
I have a 74 duster 225 with a column shift 3 speed automatic and I wanted to know what would I need to do a swap from three speed auto to 4 speed auto?

3spd + OD is a reworked wide ratio version of the A-833 manual 4 speed transmission...

So to convert for you you'll need the pedals, hump, linkage, bellhousing, flywheel, etc... to go from an auto to a manual...

Mopar has an A-500 that is an OD cousin of the A-904 in your car...but, sadly it comes only in Dodge Dakotas, and it only has the 318 V8 Bolt pattern...so to make it work you have to grab a slant to 318 adaptor from a 60's Dodge truck or van, or see if one of AREngineering's aluminum adaptors are still available ($$$)....

Either way it'll take money and parts...

The slant-6 was NEVER offered with a 4-speed automatic. The closest would be a 3-speed automatic with a locking torque convertor, available in the early 80s. In that respect, the slant and the big-block v8 are in the same boat. To put a 4-speed automatic behind them you have to either use a Gear Vendors overdrive unit, or use an adaptor plate to install one of the 4-speed automatics (A-500 and A-518) that were used with the 318 and 360 v8s in the 1990s. I've seen both types of installation behind v8s, and I have to say that the Gear Vendors option is quite a bit cleaner, although no cheaper. The tail housing sections of A-500 and A-518 are physically much fatter than the 904 and 727 that they're based on, and so you generally have to modify both the floor pan and the transmission mount crossmember in ADDITION to finding whatever adaptor plate you need to mate a slant or big-block to the transmission's small-block bolt pattern. The amount of floor pan surgery depends on the car- A-bodies require the most (especially early A's) and C-bodies need the least. But even B-bodies need a fair amount. The GV overdrive unit replaces the tailshaft housing on a 904 or 727, and extends behind the crossmember and requires minimal or no floorpan massaging. The biggest mod it requires is a custom (short) driveshaft.

maybe some body can make a bell housing for the 4L60-E. The Kiesler 4L60-E is overpriced for what it really is, a late model 4L60-E with custom bell housing might work with the slant six. Personally, I prefer a manual transmission to an auto, the late autos are more efficient than the Mopar A904/A727 or A500/A518
