Post subject:  Tires and Rims

Yesterday evening I spent a couple of hours researching information about choosing tires and rims for my 69 Valiant.

Presently the front of the car includes: 15" SBP Centerline wheels (very skinny) with Wide Track tubeless radial tires (165R15 86T).

The rear is setup with: 15" SBP Centerline wheels (very deep dish) with Cooper Radial GTs (P265/50R15).

The look is great, but I want to eventually purchase five SBP steel wheel/tire combinations all of which are the same size. That said, I want the new combination to look good, appear larger than stock, and enable me to use those great looking cop car dog dish hubcaps I see around.

According to my FSM, the maximum rim I am supposed to use is 14 x 5 1/2, and the largest tire an E70-14 (don't know what that equates to in modern tires.)

Would you please take the time to suggest a good looking combination or two keeping in mind the "wants" I included here?

Thank you.

The manual says 14" x 5½" is the maximum because that's the largest one the factory offered that year. Wider rims can be used if you want. Plain steel 14" x 5½" wheels, painted black or body colour, with full wheel covers or with centre hubcaps and trim rings, look good (trim rings missing from my departed '65 in this picture, and in retrospect I'm not too keen on the white-stripe tires):

So do rallye wheels, costly but available in 14" x 5½":

Or maybe you'd like Cragar S/S mags, which were/are available in 14" x 6"...? Here they are on my '62, together with the BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires in size P205/70R14 I use and recommend:
