Hey fellas...I am going to pick up a used 904 tranny this weekend, which I will be putting in my truck. I am told this tranny is from a running 70 Dart, and was working fine before the car got parked. I was wondering what things would be good to check and/or replace before I install this tranny. Here is a list of things I thought of:

Change front pump seal

Change tailshaft seal

Change filter and pan gasket

Are there other things I ought to consider? Is there anything in or around the valve body I ought to pay attention to while I'm changing the filter? I intend to feed this tranny ATF Type "F" since I've been using it in the 904 in my truck now and it seems to like it. Also firms up the shifts. Will that be OK? Thanks for any info. Davey

You should change the front pump bushing and seal.
Usually it is a worn front pump bushing that is the main cause of a front seal leak.

What year is the engine in your truck? If it is 67 or older the trans will not fit.
