Hi everybody! I am the proud owner of a 1976 Dodge Dart. I recently had some work done on it and it runs OK. My problem is I just checked the oil and it´s about a quart low. When I tried to remove the oil cap to refill it, the cap wouldn´t budge. What do you recommend_ |

That's an interesting problem! Recommend using a hammer to carefully tap the ears of the oil cap in a counterclockwise direction, then maybe install a new cap. Welcome to the board. Depending on your level of automotive know-how, you will want to buy at least the FSM and possibly all three books mentioned in this thread. |

Thanks SS6 Dan. I never knew an oil cap had ears. My auto know-how is pretty miserable. My Dodge was made here in Mexico. There's a good mechanic down the street who usually helps me out with this stuff, but he's off fishing in Mazatlan. I'll try your remedy. |

I wonder if we are talking about the same cap, then. The one with the green arrow is your oil cap, and it turns 90° anticlockwise to remove. The one with the red arrow is your crankcase breather, and while it is removable, it is usually quite difficult to do so: |

The Code of the Back Yard Mechanic: If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway. |
