went to "spin world" here in orlando friday nite.
pulled a 16.613 at 82.59 mph in the 1/4.
also ran a 16.826 at 82.65. both were on .696 lites, i still need to work on the tree a bit. the car seems to be getting quicker every week i take it out. the 16.6 is my best time to date.
the car is a 78 4 door aspen, sl6 of course, fresh 904, stalls at 2200 open header, 3.21 geared 8-1/4 rear with sure grip and 25"tires. modest setup at best but fun. i am sure it could run a bit faster with slicks and more gear, but then it would not be fun to hastle ol dennis and his bbd long rod duster! it used to be real consistent at 17.0 till i changed the head around and the vertor. now it runs even at 16.8 and dropping weekly. gotta give the sbc exhaust valve a little credit. later.......chad

ahhh yes sensae grasshoppa know you run faster than him, but only with 3.91 gear while grasshoppa only use 3.21! soooo, what you run with 3.23s ehhh!
the car is well uhhh, LOUD with open header (6 into 1 mp) i use 2' of 2-1/4" pipe(whatever i had laying around the garage) with a turndown to avoid cooking tranny lines. then bolt the pipe with the muffler back on before leaving the track.
will add time updates after next friday when charlie brings the "fastest 170 to be" to spin world for a little tweakin. where ya at D? come on with it!

AAAAHHHH Yes, but Master only use BBD while Grasshoppa use 500 Edelbrock and Offy intake. Slant does get very loud about 4000 or so. I use a Summit dump in the exhaust pipe. Three wingnuts and you are done! If you guys keep making Charlie's car go "Faster", I got nuthin' to worry about!

69 225 block, .060 over, old stock heavy badger pistons,
decked .145
smith bros push rods (.125 shorter than stock)
isky cam, melling lifters, mp roller chain&gears, melling hv oil pump and melling p/u tube
blended oil pump pocket, oil galleys drilled out and blended, rod galleys opened up as well, full acl bearing set, hastings moly rings
67 crank, cut .030-.030, balanced
fel pro gaskets.
65 head, sbc 1.50 exh valves, aftermarket moly retainers, positive seals, 340 springs, 30* seats and faces
stock 1.62 intakes, 30*/45*/60* seats/faces positive bbchev seals, 340 springs
fully ported and polished, surfaced .010 for sealing reasons.
this is not intended to be full race motor (obviously) just a daily driver with a little more pep than stock. cheap (kinda) and effective.
very dependable with msd, elect pump, mp header, offy intake, 500 "edelwebber" 4bbl.
tranny has been gone through and tweaked as well. custom built convertor, 5.0 KD lever, modified valve body, etc....
starts and runs well faithfully, every day, every time. turn a few wrenchs, change a chip in the rev box, jet the carb up,(change 2 rods) turn the fuel pressure up and it's ready for the track.
ok dennis, how bout a rundown of your little timebomb?

OK. '76 Duster, Sl 6, 904, 3.23 8-3/4 rear, 3605#.
Motor is a '69 225 block +.060", stock deck, steel crank turned 20-20. Got some 198 rods in it with da 2.2 turbo pistons. We floated the pins only as insurance if we had to take it back apart, (no one could tell us where the deck height was gonna come out). Comp. is about 10.8-1. It has a J&M windage tray, and for a cam I've got a 19 year old Racer Brown in it. MP supplied the timing chain and advance bushing set. Cam was set at 105* c/l. Stock oil pump. Smith Bros. stock length pushrods.

The head is an '81. It was mildly ported by J&M. They also installed small block Ford valves, 340 springs, retainers, etc. The head was built for durability rather than power since I drive this thing all over to race. Induction is by a stock Super Six intake and carb. (Stock jetting) Ignition is a MP distributor and a MP MSD6AL with a 3-step limiter.

Trans is a 904 by Keith Long. Convertor is a Liberty, 2000 stall. I too am running 25" tall tires. I am shifting at 4800.

I'm very happy with the way this engine runs, considering it has a 2bbl on it and an "ancient" camshaft. I have put almost 3500 miles on it just driving to and from dragstrips this season. "0" problems so far! Dennis

Thanks Dennis and Chad for the buildup data. You guys are running just a bit faster than my '68 Dart with the 2X1bbl Offy setup, MP 0.436" cam, stock valve head, 9.2:1 comp, 92 octane, with 3.23 gears, 2800 stall, MSD 6A, 32-3300 lbs (w/me in it). I ran 16.9's with that combo about three years ago before I switched back to my big valve+milled head, 0.490" cam, 10.5:1 comp, Edelbrock 500 on Offy 4V. The latter setup with 2.94 gears runs 16.1's.

Later,

Lou
