Hi all,

I've got a 63 Dart /6 with the stock 6 into 1 cast iron exhaust manifold. I'd like to have a local muffler shop create a "dual" exhaust system for this car.

Does anyone have any recommendations on who could do this here in the San Francisco Bay Area? And what a fair price would be?

I was thinking about going with 2 inch pipe, having it come out behind the back bumper, and using some turbo mufflers. Then when I'm ready to get my headers, I'll have an exhaust system already in place and will just need to do some work on the head pipes.

I would talk to the guys at Discount Muffler 650-355-1467 in Pacifica. They have done a number of custom pipe setups for people I know and all have been happy with the price and service.

I have used 13th street miffler in San Jose with pretty good results but shop the job around your local area, just have a clear "laundry list" on the needed work.

Do you have headers, dual manifolds or the factory single outlet manifold?

I have the factory single outlet. Based on some good info I got from one of your earlier posts - I knew that the outlet was 2 inch. I did some additional research and found a shop in San Jose called "Automan Muffler" on Steven's creek. The owner, Paul, made a beautiful custom 2 inch headpipe and two inch system. The muffler is a 3 chamber flowmaster. It's a single exhaust - and sounds great!!!!

Now I just need to get a new trunk seal! (My trunk is letting exhaust gases get back into the car at freeway speed).

My next mission is to get the front end rebuilt using MOOG hard rubber bushings. Anyone have any suggestions - the shop rate here in SF is around $90!!!

Well done, you made a good choice seeing that a 2" single system is fine for a stock SL6 and you dont have the passenger side early model clearance issues to overcome. How much did the system cost? ( we pay a lot for anything in the SF Bay Area )
Did you notice any performance improvement(s)?

Thanks Doug!

Yes - I was able to figure all that stuff out from reading posts on this board and on /6.com. This is a great resource!

The system (with Flowmaster) was $270 (and then I tipped him another $20 for all the hard word on the headpipe).

The headpipe is a work of art!

I actually noticed a substantial performance increase in the midrange. Bottom and top end seem about the same - but freeway merging and general around town stuff are much easier now - the effect is as if the car was lighter!

My next step (after I get my front end bushings replaced) is to hve the motor rebuilt) - I know we had talked earlier about using the AutoZone crate motor (which is a good deal) - but I can't resist the tempation to have someone build a custom motor for me.

Is there anyone around here that you would recommend to do the motor???

It would be real mild - just balance, blueprint, mill the head, mild cam.

Minute muffler in dublin. HTe dude built my whole pipe from hte dutras to the tip for 250 in 2.5 inch pipe, and it's wicked. Great service, heluv a nice guy, tell him richard and the green valint sent you. Custom work is no problem for scott.
I met him for the first time on that job, bounced a chek on him, payed back cash and we are still friends. Not many people will give you a glass pack on loan after you bounce a check, but scot did.

(talk about motorcycles, he loves motorcycles!)
