Found an aspen and the breather says super six (four door car) I can have the head electronic ignition and manifolds for 100 bucks , but when i took the breather off it was a one barrel carb should i bother???? already have several stock manifolds is this one the same???? All my parts are pre 68 so i was thinking the head would be beneficial. Any suggestions?

Keep looking for the two-barrel manifold ( 2 holes ). There were six of them in the local pick-n-pull. They're are pretty common. A couple weeks ago I got one from a '76 pickup which has a different heat choke than others I've seen, but this one has an EGR block-off. I needed the exhaust to replace mine which had cracked. All Super Sixes have a BBD. If think a carb from a 318 would be OK too, make sure you get the linkage.

Careful! The top of the carb looks like a 1 barrel, look at the base too.

IIRC, some 318 carbs WILL NOT work: If the throttle butterfly has two small (1/8" diameter?) holes in it, then your Slant won't idle worth a damn.

Look to see how many nuts/bolts are holding the carb on. 4 bolts - 2-bbl. 2 bolts - 1-bbl.

yeh, it would be unusual to see the super six pie pan on a 1 barrel. It's probably a 2 barrel.

so tim , if it is a 2 barrel, is 100 bucks a fair price? i do have the carb on the 318 i could use. that 100 included the linkage(including the pedal) the head and all the ignition. I was gonna get a pertronix but understand that the mopar is just as good. Thanks for all the help!!!!! This is a great site and resourse for me. Keep up the great work! I'm learning as i go.....I am a machinist by trade but not automotive(paper industry). Sorry about the lack of punctuation marks on my other post, I was never any good at that, lol Thanks again

Marty,

It all depends on supply and demand on these items. I catch about 2 a month at the local junkyards (whenever an Aspen stationwagon dies).
I usually can pick up the whole stack (pie tin, carb, both manifolds, kickdown linkage, vacuum tree & Amplifier) for $30 if carb is hot and exhaust manifold is cracked, to about $50-60 if the car still ran when they junked it. You might look around some more, or check with some other members and see if they have a spare they might part with. I had two spares, but they are already spoken for.
I understand also that pre-72 BBD, and the super six BBD had no holes in the throttle plates and make good substitutes. I have actually gotten away with soldering the holes shut in a 318 BBD but did worry about a backfire destroying my 5 minute "patch".

good luck,
