Does anyone know if it is normal to have to increase idle speed after installing a new cam (&lifters) until parts wear in? I also seem to remember the engine runnig pretty hot when I recammed my 340 ci car, until break in was over.

i have never heard of it unless your running more timing, is the over heating just when your running in the cam?

shouldn't have to. After about 1000 miles if you notice some difference in the idle i guess you'll answer your question for all of us eh

Maybe the new cam is a different profile or grind. Or the new cam could be installed in a different position, did you degree the cams? )before and after) How is the manifold vacuum, any drop there?

I'm really just a little ahead of myself on this question. The real issue is probably timing, since I just got the engine running by trial and error, without a timing light. My buddy is bringing one over tomorrow, who I used to work for at a foreign car garage, and we'll get that straightened out. I have the engine running, but it won't idle at the old warm idle setting, and I was wondering if the friction from the new cam was a factor (plenty assembly lube). I degreed the cam before installing the engine.
This /6 isn't running hot as far as I know, but have not run it very long. My question stems from a cam change in my 340 cuda, where it ran really hot for the hour long drive home, and then went back to being kind of cool. Was that unusual?

the over heating was probably just air working its way out of the cooling system, for the idle speed if the timing is of the same setting at the carb will have to change to , good luck :)
