Water/Methonal, for those who haven't heard of it, is commonly used on Boosted cars as a chemical intercooler. Water/Meth uses roughly 50/50 mix, and is commonly found as windshield wiper fluid. Its a fairly cheep octane boost and air cooler on N/A cars though, and is a cheep power adder. I'm just curious if anyones done it? Kit and Carb spacer |

I ve heard they work great in reduceing detonation and heard as much as a big boost in power. I tried a system on a supercharged 04 Nissan with no luck. There where things out of my ability (cuting in to the computer to get at the timing control) and control. I have been thinking about it a little to try to get my motor off a race fuel mix and run straight 93 octane. I was wondering if the added water would raise my already high CR? Would the infection hurt a Wide band O2 sensor? wouldn't think so. |

I'm still new to cars (Been modifying my daily driver sense I got it in 05) and this is my first carberated car. Gotta go slow with me on the acronyms.I have been thinking about it a little to try to get my motor off a race fuel mix and run straight 93 octane. I do know, and from looking at your pics looks like you have something close, that it should be placed between the MAF sensor and the throttle body, if thats any help. |

I wouldn't exactly call it a power adder. It slows the combustion process. |

Which is kind of what high octane fuel does, but if you need to run all that compression and timing, water injection is a proven method (my grandfather ran it on a '66 Chrysler 300 with the 383-4V, with some good results but not anything to sneeze about 1-3MPG tops...he probalby could have gotten that by pitching the points, going EI, and using a better timing curve, and changing the shift pattern in the tranny so it wasn't so 'sluggy'). There are some other ways to get the mileage and extra timing usage you want without having to do this...-D.Idiot |

Water methonal has been done on many applications for WRC all the way to WWII P-47 Thunderbolts (They called it "war emergency power." It added a HP to the large jugs.) I'm not looking for MPG anyways. I'm looking for something to allow me to drop my 91 octane lower. It seems to run on 89, but with everything done to it, I don't know if thats such a smart idea |

It's really only useful if you are doing something that needs the extra detonation resistance - high compression, turbo, etc. Water or methanol injection is an antidetonant and does not by itself add power. |

Here is the kit that I use on my car. http://www.alcohol-injection.com/ |

Shaker, are you happy with the Devil's own kit? Was it easy to install? Were the instructions good? Did you need tech help, and was it good? Have you seen the benefits of it? What were they? How is your engine set up? Do you have forced induction? Are you running hightest, or regular gas. Why did you install it;MPG or detonation problems? Sam |

Sam, I went with it on a pure cost basis (snow was to expensive) and I'm happy with it. It was easy to install and the directions were ok (not the best but I figured it out). They even thru in an extra nozzel at no charge They have a pretty good web site and a moderator that answers questions just about everyday. (I have some install pics out there)Sam I put a 87 Buick turbo on a stock slant six with a blow thru set up. Right now it is seeing 17psi with no problems but have run a mix of 93 + 110 race gas to help prevent detonation until I fugure things out. The kit I bought came with a pressure sensative switch (adjustable). Right now I have it set to come on at about 10psi. I'm running about a 70% mix of meth/water. I can't say 100% that it helps but from all of my research it should be helping detonation. I'm running RN9YC plugs gapped at .025 and only 16 degrees of total timing. I hope to have it to the track soon...the car has been down with a front end rebuild and a brake upgrade for about a month now. |

Thanks. That is very informative. I will watch the progress of your tuning with interest. If you are running 17 lbs of boost with no problems so far, I should be plenty safe with 9. Maybe I will up it a bit as I get comfortable with it. Thanks again. Sam |

Well, I haven't tried it, but the Aquamist kit seems to be popular over on the http://www.volvospeed.com message board, where I'm a member. I've heard that it helps spin the turbo more effectively, helps carry away heat out of the engine, prevents detonation, helps to cool the pressurized and hot intake charge air, and as an added benefit it supposedly keeps your engine as clean as a whistle. YMMV -I'm not sure if it's gonna be able to do much on an NA car tho'. Try reading some of the posts over there if you want to see what the people that have used it said. |

Thanks for the tip. It sounds like they are a proponent of watrer injection in general regardless of the brand. Sam |
