Ram 10.5 set up run behind a 440 for less than 50 miles.
This will fit my slant correct?
It may be a little rough to run it as a daily driver?
For $25 and a new T/O bearing I think I did OK.

I think a 10 inch is the biggest clutch you can run behind a slant.Thats the biggest problem most folks have finding a good clutch for a slant with a stock bellhousing. HyperValiant |

There were severe-duty 11" clutches installed behind slant-6s. Different starter and other parts are needed. |

The stock bellhousings only allow use of the 9.25" and 10" clutches...and actually the 10" doesn't readily fit in the "3-speed only" bellhousing without some grinding (not advised), the 4 speed bell allows use of both clutch types... the third type has the starter in the 'low' mount like small blocks have... the bellhousing bolts are on the inside of the bell behind the flywheel...this bellhousing was used in some B/C body slant six applications and trucks and van with the NP toploader/boat anchor 4 speed... The clutch for it is a true 11" and you can interchange the clutch set from any 340/360/383-2v onto this setup (especially if you're ordering a McCleod setup to replace the stock one...)...I think Lou has used one of these guys before, I have one I'll be adapting for used behind the EFI Hpak mill, I can tell you the 11" bellhousing is a nice heavy cast iron dude that makes the aluminum ones look small... Hello, DI is dead on right...I saved the cast iron bell when I changed from a truck 3 speed to a 833OD....the bell feels about 60 pounds! It is all you want to carry across the shop cause its wide, too! The reason it has bolts inside to the block is because, nearly unbelievably, it is a casting that has a plate part for the block and starter, then a clutch space, then more iron to go to tranny mating point. When I first started taking it apart I was confused with all the pics of guys with these high mount starters...it uses a low mount you need to get underneath to really attack and it has a different block to bell support. If you are hell bent on the big clutch, I loaned out the flywheel but could round it up if you want a bell and flywheel. Now that flywheel is load to carry, too ! rock '64d100 |
