73 duster w/318 to 225 ....

Post subject:  73 duster w/318 to 225 ....
I have a 73 duster that last had a 318/904 in it but now has no engine or trans. I want to put a 225/904 in it but cannot recall that in 73 whether the k frames are the same or not. Anyways can I use my k frame thats in there or do I have to switch it to go to slant power???

The K frames are different, and I know of no conversions to go from V-8 to slant. Contact Schumacher and see if they have one, or will fabricate one. You might be on your own to fabricate one. That is a very nice car, and the perfect body for the slant. It is very aerodynamic, and fairly light for it's size.


Why not go to the junk yard, and find a slant six powered car, and take everything from the k frame up? They are easy to get out. Does your car have disk brakes. If not look for one with disk brakes as well, and .
then grab the entire front end of the donor along with the K frame. This would involve unbolting the upper control arms from the frame, and then everything else can remain bolted to the K member. Then maybe go back later and get the big bolt rear that will be with it. If you have disk brakes already, then you are good to go with only the K member.

Thanks Sam. I guess I'll have to get to looking. Only problem is that many of the slant cars around the yards around here have been crushed
because of the increase in scrap metal prices. What a shame.... :cry:

Last time I was south of you, there were still slants in the ad hoc yards that seemed to develope out behind the gas stations. Maybe there are still some there. Maybe they have all been crushed by now. I'm talking down towards Top Sail Island off of rt 17. There is a yard in Maryland called B&B that specializes in old Mopars. If you can;t find them, PM me and I will look up their phone number. I would think there are guys out there who have these things on E-bay or Moparts.com. Oh, yeah there is a yard in Georgia, I think called Stephen's Performance that also specializes in old Mopars. If you call up Year One, they will give you the phone number.

Also, do a google search for Schumacher, I think they are called Creative Services or some such thing. They make the conversions for slant to v-8. Maybe they can help you out.

I have installed Slants onto the "spool mount" V8 K-frame, I had to weld-up my own "special" motor mounts.

I started with the V8 mounts, set in the "forks" of the K, I also used a set of early SL6 engine mount brackets (cushions removed) and bolted those to the engine.

I lowered the engine down and used the "hot wrench" to cut away interfering hunks of bracket, until I got the engine centered and level.
Put down a couple of tack welds, pull the "frankenstien" brackets out and finished the welding with my arc welder.

After some grinding and paint, the home made brackets looked pretty good and worked fine.

Doug, did you retain the spool mounts up top, or mate the biscuits up top to the spool mount K frame? That's the kind of creativity that makes the slant so appealing. If you had a SBC you could get anything you needed for every application, and money would be all that was required. No thinking, and very little doing. This is what makes a great hobby!
