| Post subject: | A904 Maintenance |
Hello all. I plunged in last night and began the cleaning process for the 904 I got Saturday for my truck. While at work yesterday at NAPA I got the pump seal and bushing, tail seal, shift lever seal and filter together. After I cleaned it some last night, I realized the pan on this tranny has been down before...there was blue rtv sealant squeezed out around the pan gasket area, so I know the pan has been down at least once in the past. Don't know whether it was for routine maintenance (which would be a GOOD thing) or if it was to make repairs (possibly NOT a good thing). Either way, I noticed than pan has a small dent in it like the car it was in bumped over something or maybe something bounced up off the road and struck it. Doesn't look severe enough to have caused damage internally, but is evidence this tranny has a past life. After 37 years I reckon so. It will be interesting to get the pan down and have a look. My question for today is: Is there a technical paper on line or a website I could go to to get 904 service and maintenance procedures? I thought maybe there was one in the tech articles on this website, but I don't see one. Thanks for all your help. Davey |
