| Post subject: | Drum Brake Shoe Options |
Yesterday I pulled the Centerline wheels off my 69 Valiant and replaced them with steel wheels (14 x 5 1/2") on all four corners. Additionally I put P205R14 tires on as recommended by Dan, and once again life is good. But....that said, I think, from looking at the condition of all four drums and their innards, it is major brake rebuild time. Can you recommend a reliable brake shoe material? Thanks. |

I would probably buy the premium grade from either Raybestos or Bendix. If you've got 9" drum, the Raybestos "PG" ("professional grade") sets are P/N 330 front and 329 rear. It's a good idea to replace the brake hardware while you're in there doing the shoes, and you can improve the consistency of performance from these brakes by putting in some later-design hardware, per this post. Note that new wheel cylinders are still readily available for these brakes and aren't costly; you may want to go ahead and put new ones in unless yours appear quite recent. |
