After threatening to get a slant for years, i finally sucombed to the lure after watching doc and friends having a jolly time at sac last year with a bunch of slanted loonies... Picked his brain between rounds 'til i'm sure he wanted to change pits and not tell me... anyway, after kissing a bunch of frogs( no not frenchies) i found a pretty clean '75 vl29 225/904 car... So after owning and racing a few odd balls (Hudsons, vauxhall, VWs etc i can honestly say this Mope is the slowest car i have ever driven, save perhap for a 1958 Messerschmidt KR250.... Anyhow, i will be posting numerous questions about slants soon i have spent the last coupla days cleaning and flushing and renewing fluids..As well as taking hundreds , well maybe dozens, of pics to document all stages of this madness. goona try to make TNT at Sac Wed. Thanks to all in advance . dr |

Good to see another racer! I live just around the corner from the track and have never been there, might have to change that. Will the track let you run just test and tune on wed, it is the street leagle night, or do you have to run in one of there classes? Congrats for picking up a slant! TF |

For ten dollars i can pick you up 1/10 of a second. Go to home depot or lowes get a alluninum dryer vent and rig up a ram air to the air cleaner. A couple large plastic ties run it right behind your grill and up to the intake on the air cleaner. Take the filter out and if it has a typical 2.76 rear gear manual shift at 4800 rpms and leave it in second gear thru the 1/4 it aint going to pull much more than 4800 rpm and drag will take over. Put on a couple wide rear tires. I found a tire dealer here that still had a trueing machine that would shave rubber off the tires Put on goodyear 60 series tires after having them shaved for 5 dollars and the car would hook good if you stayed out of the burnout box. I raced a 74 Dart Sport this way and it was the fastest like this. I would have to look at my time book 10 years ago but I beleve it ran a 18.90 or something like that. It was a 20 second car stock. |

Welcome magOO. There are three serious slant6 cars from your area. Tristan joined us at Redding earlier this year and then came to Medford and now has some neat additions to his "Wicked Six" and will debut it again at Redding on August 25-26. Gary Nelson is working hard on 'Dobie' and Charlie Holt has a really clean 74' Swinger that also was at Redding. It would be great if you could hook up with a couple of these guys and join us at Redding...You will be able to see about 20 slant6 cars..everything from pure stockers to several that run in the 12-13 second. Seeing what other guys are doing and getting some free tech help will usually save you lots of $$ and time. Say hi to Tristan and good luck...you can always email me at waynee@dcsi.net if you needed...have fun, Wayne in Chico |

First run with a PURE STOCK as purchased 1975 VL29 225 904 PS PDB car 21.11 at 64.999... I figured the car fdor a mid twenty at about 64mph.. so second pass with a cool down 20.56 @67.701..... Third pass is first Elim .. dialed .47 and I dozed off and that brite green light must have woke me up... 20.87 @67.594... so the mph is not too bad but that 2.8- 2.9 sixty.. Yikes! ... gotta do something about that ... Other than cold air what cheap, or better yet, free mods might one suggest.. pull the cat (legal) yank the smog pump etc what base timing might work? anyone ? Thanks . |
