I'm trying to pull the head on my 72 D100 pickup. I have all 14 headbolts out, but can't get the head to budge. Any tips? |

With the spark plugs installed, crank the engine a few times. The compression should unseat it. |

Once you get it loose, dont forget the coolant hose between the head and water pump. I just cut mine, and replaced it before I put the head back on. |

You also have to pull the alternator bracket (you got the one attached to the block, right?): remove alternator, then remove coil and bracket (if still in stock location), remove 2 bolts and one nut off of stud, remove alt bracket and you should be able to pull the head off unless it's one stubborn slant... I'd put two head bolts back in (couple threads)before removing the bracket, 'just in case'... good luck, -D.Idiot |
