I was going to set my valve lash until I found that ALL of the rocker arms were plugged and one pushrod was bent. I have the rockers soaking, but I'd like to do a compression check while I'm waiting for the gunk in the oil passages to loosen up. Can I do a compression check with the rockers out? I'm thinking without the valves opening it won't be worthwhile, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks,

John

Yes, the valves need to open and close to get compression reedings.
BTW,
On your clogged rocker arms, you should find yourself a good used (unclogged) rocker arm assembly to use. It is unlikely you will be successful in getting all 12 arms unclogged. (and you can spend hours trying)

I'll keep my eyes open for a good set. I'm not in a hurry, so its worth trying to save them. I need to run up on a used crock pot to turn into a hot tank  I appreciate the help.

somone had an NOS set on Ebay last week, the price didnt seem too bad. If youre not in a hurry it would be worth watching there.

Those show up on Ebay with some regularity. I've been tempted myself but I think I have everything I need.

Thrift shops, Goodwill stores, etc. usually have plenty of used crock pots for sale for a couple of dollars or so.
