So I've spent the last month or so looking for a harmonic balancer for my 1975 plymouth valiant custom (225 slant six). Everywhere I've looked offers a single pulley setup and I need three pulleys.
Maybe this is amature mistake but I'm reluctant to pull off my current balancer without a replacment. As this would be the first time I've replaced this part, and this is my daily driver.
My mechanic mentioned that maybe I add two pulleys onto a single pulley setup.
I've looked at summit, yearone, jegs, chrysler and most auto parts stores in my area. They all offer the same or similar products.
If anyone has this balancer setup or knows where I can find this it would be alot of help.

Damper Doctor offers rebuilt slant six balancers. They have the single,double & the triple grove balancers also. Bit I would make sure which one you have before ordering. It could indead be a double with a pulley bolted to it. If you get the part# off your old balancer they list there's by the Mopar number, plus the desciption of the groves & which make model & year they are for.

You can also look on Ebay, there is a company that offers Rolmac performance balancers for the /6. I believe Romac is who makes it & you may find other places that sell it too. It is a very good one, but I dont think you can get it in a 3 grove.

Theres only one groove in the balancer. There are, however, 6 threaded holes. Three of them used to bolt on the pulley in the front, the other 3 for the pulley in the rear.

Do you have a 3 groove on the engine, now? Why do you need to change it? AS stated the damper is one groove, and the other pulleys just bolt on. If you have 3 pullys now, and the front and rear pulleys are ok, and just the damper is bad, remove your damper, remove your pulleys and reinstall on a new damper. If you are adding pulleys, to allow use of power steering or air conditioning, all you need is the extra pulleys. They might be available from the dealer, junkyard, or a NOS dealer (more money).

Maybe I cant see this pic of the balancer very good (you know how pics are) but this looks like a three groove balancer that is listed at DD.
You say there is no such thing as a three groove, but look at this link with a pic of balancer# CHR2253 on the DD sight.

They also show a 2V balancer, but maybe they do bolt together & the pics are missleading.

That's an industrial application; I don't believe they were ever installed on cars. That doesn't mean they won't work - if the spacing is right.

A few years back Ceej and I found one of those 3 groove dampers installed on a 225 in a 73 Dart. I kept the balancer as a 'core' and as a conversational peice, I'm pretty sure before the dart went to the junkyard that the previous owner must've blown up the original motor and swapped a 'freebie' mill into the car...

Let me amend my statement, though I know you understand. They were never installed by the factory on cars. I've no doubt that a few may have made it via aftermarket avenues. Although, at times things were apparently somewhat chaotic on the Chrysler assembly lines and a lot of oddball stuff has come from them.

My front and rear pulley look and rotate fine, it's the middle pulley that has a wobble to it. It has been tearing up my alternator belt, and causing a irregular vibration in the engine.
So, would I need a new pulley or a new dampner? Which is the middle pulley...I guess I just need to take it off and see.

Pulley #1- fan & a/c
Pulley #2 fan & alternator
Pulley #3 power steering and untill recently smog pump

Can you see the gap between the 3rd pulley (right) and the 2nd pulley?
This is the problem I've been having. I lust thought that a picture might help.

as you can see the three pulleys look like the 1st and third are not part of the harmonic balancer, if they were you would not see any gap, Take a mirror and see if you can see any bolt heads in the center of the balancer. My 63 Dart GT has air cond and it has a bolt on second pulley.

the damper is a two piece assembly with the outer ring/pulley seperated from the inner hub with a rubber strip. Sometimes the rubber deteriorates and the outer part slips. I suppose if it slips sideways it would wobble. If the 2 bolt-on pieces are running true you should only need the single groove damper and bolt those to it.

As I recall, the engine had the yellow paint scheme. Wasn't that Truck and Farm implement clothing? Or is my brain full of mush?

Trucks: Red from '61-'62, yellow from '63-'68 or '69, blue from '70-'82 or '83, black until the end in '87.

Industrial equipment: Default was passenger car color (red til '68, turquoise in '69, blue til '83, black after that) but whatever the equipment OEM wanted, the equipment OEM got.
