well my 65' dart still has the cooling prob.225 /6 it has a shroud and a 6 blade flex fan.timings good. got 700 miles on a rebuild. my other eng ran hot too. why does the temp climb so fast when it idles at a red light? it has a new 2 core radiator about 1.5 yr old. that temp needle is driving me crazy! the cooling system just can't overcome the heat after its been ran for a while or over 50 mph for a few and i halve to stop at a red light. night driving is good though at 60 mph. but it sounds VERY GOOD WHEN RUNNING. is there a high volume water pump for these things or a smaller water pump pulley (so the fan will spin faster) EVERTHING IS NEW OR REFRESHED ON THIS THING any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks

If you have a "stock" 19 inch 2-core radiator, (even "rebuilt")I bet that is the issue / problem.
Take some measurments, note the outlet positions and go to the junkyard and grab a "big-one". (or borrow one from someone, wire the thing in there and run a test. If I'm wrong, we will move-on to other "fixs", if I'm right.....

You might look at getting a Electric fan and installing it on the front of the radiator that
way you still run your stock fan inside.
Buy a kit with a temp sensor thats adjustable and
set it at that temp range your looking for.
Also is the temp guage reading right!...
My car gives false readings at times, I have opened the radiator cap and put a thermometer in the coolant thats flowing and read the right range that the car should be at while the guage is showing me a higher value that actual...
good luck on the heat problem...

At one time my 68 Valiant had an overheating problem while the car was stopped, especially while running the AC. I live in Texas were overheating can be a problem. I put in a new radiator for a 76 Valiant, (the larger one, there are 2 sizes) shroud, 195 degree thermostat, 6 bladed fan, overflow bottle and an antifreeze mix of 50/50 with distiled water. The radiator was about $150.00 at Pep Boys with a lifetime warranty. The rest I got out of a salvage yard. After I did this the car could sit in 100 degree heat idling with the AC on for hours without overheating. Also make sure you have a good bottom hose with a spring in it. The bottom hose may be collapsing. The 195 degree thermostat will give the coolant more of a chance to cool off in the radiator.

A freind had a slant 6 Volaré that the temp gauge started to run high (showed "overheat") about a year after I replaced the thermostat for him. He took it to a repair garage and had the thermostat replaced twice in a short time. Still the temp gauge ran high. So next time he visited me I checked the gauges in the dash. Turned out to be the voltage regulator for the gauges was burnt out and supplying FULL power to the gauges which makes them read high. That also explained why he ran out of gas before the fuel gauge showed empty. I replaced the instrument cluster voltage regulator and that was the end of his "overheating" problem.
A Quick check to see if the instrument cluster voltage regulator is working...is to disconnect the lead from the temp sensor on the engine, then connect a volt meter from the lead to ground, turn the ignition switch to "ON" the watch the meter. At first it will show full steady voltage, after a few moments it should show a pulsing voltage from zero to battery voltage. If it is pulsing then voltage regulator is working, if meter shows steady voltage then voltage regulator is shot.

Gota go with craig on that one. My valient is all whacked out, higher compression, avanced timeing, 4bbl and I beat on it. I have a '66 radiator, and it runs cool, even with a 192 thermo and I took it throught the central valley, and it never budged. from 3/4 my brothers f**d falc*n had the same problem you are having. Replaced that dash thingy (I have done it to datsuns too) and all teh preoblems went away. Good luck and let us know what it was.
