Post subject:  tell tale signs of rebuilt engine?

Hey --guys finally scored one of those free slant 6's you hear about--- The motor is too clean (I know you can steam clean) it looks to have been in good shape-- owner wanted to put in his race 360.. anyhow with out disassembly anyway to check for machine work? The block is a pre 67 style according to the casting #(2463430-17) & the head is a 78-79 style(4104632---1249)..
I figure someone wanted unleaded heads-- came from a duster with working a/c
Tranny also was included not gunked up-- or road grimed---
these are headed to my shed in the back for future use.
Thanks Lawrence

Most bearings are date coded so that's one way to tell the age, but it's not always accurate. Some time bearings can sit around on the shelf, but it's hard to have a rebuild older than the bearings. Also the way the engine is painted can be a tell. If it's really a pre '67 block the block should be red.
