I did a search about removing/installing the cam bearing as I'm going to d o it in a shorwhile, only waiting for my block to be cleaned...

I have on of these Tools, but no picture of it yet,

They should have a picture there (search For Cam installation Tool) - I bought A cam Baring tool from them last year, and It was a bit expensive, but it works great, and Pays for itself in 2 uses. I got the universal one, so it works with all motors- It's also great for Transmission tailshaft Bushings etc.

Ok so these tools are expanding units? I don't really understand how can it make a bearing come/go while it's expanding it...? It should be interfering with the journal?
Anyhow, can I just machine on a lathe a piece that's just a bit smaller than the bearing and make it go in and out that way?

The expanding part that fits in the bearing has a shoulder that drives the bearing into the block. You could make something on the lathe, but you'll end up making 4 somethings as all 4 bearings are of slightly different size.

I never thought about it before but making each bearing a little bigger makes perfect sense. I wonder long it took the engine builders to think of this. (Not very long I'm sure)[/quote]
