hi everybody!
i'm replacing the wheel bearings in the rear end of my A108 van.
timing turned out to be perfect and i'm upgrading as well to 11" brakes. in the donor vehicle i found a shim between the passenger side backing plate and the axle housing.
what purpose does this shim serve?
is it relevant if it is on the housing itself, or can it be inside the brake drum area?

D~~~!

That should be a coated metal gasket. There should be a metal gasket between each backing plate and the housing. There should be a foam gasket between the axle retainer and the backing plate. Both types can be had through FelPro.

do u happen to have a part # for those gaskets?
my local parts man tells me there are not available anymore. he also tells me the seal kits used to include the flange that holds the outer seal.

Try clicking the very obvious red link.

What year is this housing and axles? The outer seal on a flanged axle is captured between the wheel bearing and the axle flange.
