Does this

seem like a good idea? I wonder about plugging the drain holes in the distributor housing when mounting the HEI gizmo to the distributor? Thanks!

That's a really neat and clean installation but the problem is that the distributor on a slant is kind of low and subject to getting some road splash. Most people mount the HEI box on the inner fender up where it will stay dry and clean.

HEI upgrade instructions, use a Standard-Bluestreak CH410X cap and (if you have a '74-down head w/spark plug tubes) put in NGK ZFR5N plugs gapped to 0.045".

not a good idea on the slant, not to mention it would not be a direct fit, you have all the oiling port and counter-regulation screw down there.

Hi Dan,

Is this the same as the PZFR5N-11TG? - my side of the globe you can only get thes via the VW agents - NGK locally dont enven list them The P apparently is for Platinum

The one they have has got three earth prongs - one in the normal position, and the othe two +- level with the central electrode

Wich brings me to my question - how the dickens does one gap this thing?

R150 a pop - ~ $20

Nope, not the same plug...those triple earth electrodes and stratospheric price aren't the way to have fun. Guess you are probably stuck importing ZFR5Ns yourself if you want them, unless maybe NGK South Africa can be persuaded to bring some in for you ex-Japan where they're made. I'm sure www.rockauto.com ship internationally (you can click the red start button, then go to direct part search and enter ZFR5N ). If that won't work out, I'm sure some arrangement can be made with a helpful Northern Hemisphere dweller.

Can you get autolites?

The autolite 985 is an extended tip too, and would be a 2nd choice for the plug instead of the NGK
