Post subject:  What's the deal with rear spring sliders?

I've been seeing references to sliders for the rear spring hanger. Can someone give me a quick overview including their purpose and pluses and minuses? Are they something that helps reduce bind-up on a drag car, or are they useful for handling? I'm going to be re-doing the '71 Scamp's rearend shortly and want to know if it's something I should look into.

Thanks!

Mike

The big thing is the spring rate doesn't fluctuate as the shackle swings through it's arc. Yes, they do reduce binding, but if you use poly bushings with nylocks on the shackles so they don't have to be over tight you'll get rid of most of the binding. So they are good for handling. I say sliders are not worth it on a street car as they make noise and require maintenance.
