I'm changing out a gas tank in one of my Valiants. Pads for both original and donor tanks were bad.
Any suggestions for a substitute material I can get locally?

I used roofing felt on my car. That is the stuff used under the shingles. Thicker then tar paper.

Yes, what Charrlie said. One thing I may add is don't go to the local lumber yard expecting to find it in small quantities. Look around your neighborhood for someone doing their roof, odds are they will part with a 6" wide strip or may have some in the dumpster (skip for you guys accross the pond).

Right, I got some from my neighbor. Still have some left, if you need it.

Thanks, I was able to find some.

When I pulled the tank from the donor car, I wondered why it didn't fall down with every thing unhooked. Well, some fool had installed a patch in the trunk floor with 6 rivets, 3 of which were drilled thru the floor into the tank! I plugged them up with 3 sheet metal screws and some epoxy.
