I have the 63 Dart below, 170, 3spd stick on the tree, 3.23 7 1/4 rear. I got a junkyard 7 1/4 from an auto 73 Dart 2.76 gear. Will it bolt in the car? Anything that wont fit? I know the 2.76 gear will be harder on the 9" clutch, but I'm ok with that for now. Maybe it will give me more gas mileage. A related question. Do I have any hope of fitting 215/60/15 tires on 15X8 wheels on the rear of the 63? Thanks for any help. TopHat |

The 73 axle will bolt in. You can swap the 3.23 gears into the late carrier wih no difficulty. I bet those wheels will fit if they have the right backspace. |

Up date: I put 73 axle in. I only found one "gotcha", the parking brake cables on the 73 are a bit longer then on the 63. I used the 73 cables anyway for now. I had to rig some spacers in the adjustment rod, but it holds. \ The 15X8 wheels and 215/60/15 tires had no hope of fitting without jacking the rear up and trimming (cutting) the the wheel wells. Everything else went great. TopHat |
